The first album of the Buena Vista Social Club is released. Salsa dancing, Cuban cigars, mojitos and, of course, dinner with all the flavours and spices of Cuba create the perfect way to pay tribute to an amazing Havana institution, the Buena Vista social club. The private club in Havana, Cuba, put on dances and concerts in the 1940s. In the 1997, nearly 50 years after the club was closed, it inspired an album by Cuban musician Juan de Marcos González and American …guitarist Ry Cooder. Together with Cuban musicians, some of whom had played at the club in the 1940s, they made a recording called The Buena Vista Social Club. The recording became an international success, and the ensemble was invited to perform in Amsterdam in 1998. This was followed by a second concert in Carnegie Hall, New York. The two performances were captured on film by German director Wim Wenders. Wenders's film, also called The Buena Vista Social Club, won numerous awards, including Best Documentary at the European Film Awards. This party is all about Cuba, so tell your friends to be on their most flirtatious behaviour and be prepared for Latin music and dancing→
