The Great Fish day is an annual festival in Dalvíkurbyggð, or Dalvik, Iceland, held the first or the second Saturday in August. According to Dalvik fishmonger, Júlíus Júlíusson, it is the largest free food festival in Europe. Fish producers and other social groups invite guests to a seafood buffet at the picturesque harbour of Dalvik. Fresh seafood is cooked using traditional Icelandic recipes and fusion styles and the town is full of street entertainment and live music. Keep this… setting in mind when you plan for your own Great Fish Day at home. Decorate with fish nets, hemp rope and float tubes and as a pre-dinner activity, take everyone fishing. Fish and seafood is naturally on the menu and the music is of course "fish inspired". Dalvik is a community of 2 200 people in the north of Iceland. Great Fish Day has grown in popularity and size every year since it was first held in 2001. It was originally only celebrated for one day, but the celebrations have now been stretched out to almost a week. Today, the event attracts over 33,000 people and guests are offered free tastes of fish, prepared with all imaginable methods, ranging from dried fish soup to fish burgers→
