10 March Argungu fishing festival

The Argungu Fishing Festival attracts thousands of fishermen and spectators every year. The four-day cultural event has been held every year since 1934 in the north-western state of Kebbi, Nigeria. Due to Sharia law, the competition is only open to men. When the signal is given, a crowd of fishermen equipped with their traditional nets and gourds runs for the Matan Fadan River.
